The week ahead 9th November 2025
Dear Glebe Families,
We have had a great first week back with children back into routines, a successful Family Friday, a new exciting range of extracurricular clubs were launched for Autumn 2 including a Korean Club – a first for Glebe!
Nearly all families are now on time in the morning before 8.45am which is appreciated – thank you! If you are not, we are sending reminders and need to point out that continual lateness disrupts your child’s learning, the learning for the class and can lead to an education penalty notice. More importantly it is a life skill – we all have to be at work on time as adults, so lets make good habits for our children today!
FIVE REMINDERS FOR THE WEEK AHEAD:
1. LOCKDOWN PRACTICE
Having practised fire evacuations to get everyone out of the building last half term, we will now focus on how we would manage a lockdown to get everyone back in the building and to ensure we have “locked down” the building because of an outside threat to the safety of our children and staff. We will hopefully never need it, but we practise it all the same as we did last year. We will discuss it with children over the next couple of weeks.
If you have any questions, email in office@glebe.harrow.sch.uk or chat to a leader on the gate at pick up/drop off.
2. NOURISH MENU
Have a look at the new menu from Nourish. A sample of children were asked on their views and Nourish responded: https://www.glebe.harrow.sch.uk/Parents/School-Meals/ Remember it is FREE for every Reception to Year 6 child!
3. EXTRAS THIS WEEK – BE ORGANISED!
We start MONDAY with REMEMBRANCE and a reminder that poppies can be purchased from the school office for a donation if you would like to (optional) ahead of Tuesday’s Remembrance day.
EVERY DAY is FREE BREAKFAST CLUB, with a HOT BREAKFAST on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
FRIDAY we have our NON-UNIFORM DAY FOR BBC CHILDREN IN NEED! We will be in the playground with buckets to collect your donations of £1 per child for this worthwhile cause. In return, children can wear non-uniform linked to spots, wearing Pudsey YELLOW, superheroes or anything that makes them feel great!

LUCY "The Space” Family Support Idea for the Week:
💡 How Your Stress and Emotions Affect Your Child
Children are deeply sensitive to the feelings of the adults around them—especially their parents and carers. When you’re feeling stressed, anxious, or upset, your child can pick up on these emotions, even if you don’t say anything. This can sometimes make children feel worried, confused, or unsafe.
Your emotional wellbeing plays a big role in helping your child feel secure and supported. When parents manage their stress well, it creates a calmer, more stable environment that benefits the whole family.
🧠 Signs Your Child May Be Affected
If you are going through a stressful time, your child might:
- Become more clingy or withdrawn
- Show changes in behaviour, such as irritability or mood swings
- Have trouble sleeping or eating
- Experience difficulties concentrating at school
- Express worries or fears indirectly
❤️ How Parents and Carers Can Manage Stress for Everyone’s Benefit
- Recognise your feelings
It’s okay to feel stressed or upset. Acknowledge your emotions rather than pushing them away. - Take care of yourself
Prioritise self-care: rest, exercise, healthy eating, and time for activities you enjoy. - Model healthy coping
Show your child how you manage stress calmly — through deep breathing, talking, or taking breaks. - Communicate openly
Explain your feelings in simple terms and reassure your child it’s not their fault. - Maintain routines
Predictable daily schedules help children feel safe even when adults are stressed. - Ask for support
Reach out to friends, family, or professionals if you need help managing your emotions.
Sometimes we could all do with someone to talk to.
If you would like to meet Lucy Cohen for a confidential and non-judgemental chat about you, your child, or any other worries, they are available on Tuesdays from 9-10am.
You can call/text 07469705850 or email lucy@schoolscounsellingpartnership.co.uk
