The week ahead 7th September 2025

Dear Glebe Families,

We are back! We are excited about the year ahead, and we will give our Glebe children the best we can! It has been a smooth first week back, and only 2 unnamed jumpers and 1 unnamed coat in lost property!  It has been so good to see our happy Glebe children and also your happy faces as you came into school this week – that #gloriousglebe vibe is back for the new school year.

As always, this is your SUNDAY PING, going out every Sunday at 9am with your reminders and prompts so you are actively supporting your child’s learning and development and helping them get the most out every day at Glebe.

FIVE REMINDERS (But 10 reminder this week as it is the first week back!) FOR THE WEEK AHEAD:

1. UNIFORM – everyone in the right uniform by 12th September please.

We have so many children looking smart and ready for learning – it is instilling a real sense of pride in being a part of the Glebe family.  Miss Esmond will reach out to parents where uniform is not quite right so we can help you.  Really liking seeing so many children wearing the school tie too – very smart! https://www.glebe.harrow.sch.uk/Parents/School-Uniform/

Thanks also for supporting with Book Bags and not big ruck-sacks.

2. AUTUMN TERM 1 CLUBS:

Mr Sankey sent out confirmations for your child’s Autumn 1 clubs on Friday, and I also sent a reminder for JAG’s daily after school club at Glebe – check your PINGs for the details!

I want to thank our staff who run extra-curricular clubs voluntarily as they want Glebe children to have the best opportunities – you are appreciated Glebe staff team!

3. SAFEGUARDING REMINDERS

Please remember to stand back when you collect your child at the end of the day, so staff can safely send the right child to the right adult.

Children do not need mobile phones at this age and definitely not expensive Smartphones.  If you must send your child with one, they must hand it into the school office at the start of the day and collect it at the end of the day.  If we find a child with a phone on them during the day, we will confiscate it and ask to meet with you and your child before returning it.  Remind your child never to walk and talk on their phone in public to avoid them being an easy target for theft or robbery.

Look out for our shared focus question as adults...”ARE THEY SAFE?”.  This is the responsibility of all adults in school and in our community to keep our children at the heart of everything.

As parents, safety at pick-up, drop off and driving around the area is a key responsibility – ARE YOU KEEPING GLEBE CHILDREN SAFE?

4. LUNCH

A reminder only Reception parents will need to pre-order their child’s lunches on ParentPay but we will move to Arbor in the coming weeks.

Y1-Y6 children ALL HAVE FREE LUNCH and now just “choose with their eyes”.  If your child has developed a food allergy and you have not yet told us, please meet Ms St Cyr as soon as possible to discuss it.

Nursery to Y2 have government funded free fruit snack every day.  Y3-Y6 children can bring in their own fruit-based snack for morning break if you wish. Note this is FRUIT! Not crisps, chocolates etc!!

If your child is having a packed lunch, ensure it is healthy and a balanced diet.  Avoid crisps and chocolates please.

5. ABSENCE and TERM DATES:

A reminder our 2025-26 term dates are here: https://www.glebe.harrow.sch.uk/Parents/School-Day-and-Term-Dates/

Under current law, all schools will be expected to look at issuing fines for unauthorised absences. Fines will be £80 if paid within 21 days of being issued and then doubled to £160 if they are paid between 21 and 28 days, per child, per parent. You can only receive two of the fines in a three-year period and then the issue may be escalated to a parenting order or prosecution. Fines that may then be issued after prosecution can rise to £2500.

Gates open at 8.35am, with children needing to be in the playground by 8.40am at the latest so they are in class ready for the register and to learn at 8.45am!

6. NATIONAL READ-ALOUD CHALLENGE

We have had a tremendous response to the summer READ ALOUD challenge!  We are currently the 55th best performing school out of thousands and thousands across the country, and in second place in Harrow.  It is not too late as the official closing is TOMORROW!  Make sure you have linked your child to GLEBE PRIMARY SCHOOL.  If you have not yet taken part, do it today - it is free and will give your child the boost they need with reading aloud: https://www.readaloudchallenge.co.uk/join/BMXS-EKWF-8E19

A special shout out to Riya Varsani (46,256 points), Amelia Vekaria (19,538 points), Amaya Bhudia (8,784 points), Tirth Shah (8,504 points) and Niam Patel (8,252 points).  Come on gloriousglebe - get involved!
