The week ahead 6th July 2025
Dear Glebe Families,
It was a week of meeting new classes and teachers, hot weather, wet weather, dancing and competition! Glebe life is never dull! On Friday, we had our annual Fun & Fitness finale of the staff vs Y6 children netball match. Three games, all highly competitive but I am proud to say this year, staff won all three matches with high praise to our Y6 who gave them a tough challenge! Proud as always of our Y6 children! You will also see Y6s in their new leaver’s hoodies, something parents can purchase when their child is in Y6.
We also had our whole school dance with “Cotton Eye Joe” being the theme! Look out for a video soon but I am sure your child can teach you their moves! My thanks to Miss Sawicka for leading this last week and into next week along with Mr Banks and our Y5 Sports Ambassadors.
SIX REMINDERS FOR THE WEEK AHEAD:
1. SPORTS CAROUSEL/RACES REMINDERS
A PING was sent on Thursday (and an extra one yesterday for Y3/4) to confirm the times we would love you to attend your child’s sports carousel and races, and for YOU to take part too! We plan to host this on our field. For the morning sessions, you can stay in our playground after drop-off and wait, and we will walk you to the field, or go and come back. For afternoon sessions, please line up by the EXIT entrance of the CAR PARK in a neat queue along the pavement so it is not blocked for local residents.
2. SUMMER FESTIVAL – 6 DAYS TO GO
We are excited to host this on a Saturday and need your support to make it a huge success! Reflecting on the Christmas Fair and to speed up waiting times/queues, we will be doing a token system like many other schools now do. That means you purchase tokens in batches on arrival (PAYING BY CARD OR CASH) or during the fair, meaning it is quicker to pay at any stall without waiting for change to be calculated and counted back, and avoids any errors!
Our Y6s and their parents also have 8 great stalls to offer more than ever to our Summer Festival – our children will learn more about this in assembly on Monday!
We do still need volunteers – message Bhavnita if you can do anything for us on 07930 403814
Finally, RAFFLE TICKETS ARE ON SALE IN THE PLAYGROUND BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL FROM MONDAY!
3. ASPIRE PROJECT and READING ALOUD
We shared with your child this week their summer ASPIRE project, building on their PASSION project from last summer. Scary to think of your child in the future as a 25 year old, but we want them to be excited about being a future world changer and doing something to make a positive difference in the future, by trying their hardest to be their best today!

We have also shared the national READING ALOUD challenge! Have you registered your child for free? Reading fluency gives children confidence, the ability to read accurately faster for example in their reading tests, and is a life skill for whatever their aspire to be in the future! Please register – see last Wednesday’s PING
4. ART WEEK
Our annual arts week happens this week - this year's theme is NATURE'S SOLEMNITY: "What a wonderful world".
During the afternoons, children will be creating a range of artistic pieces, which will be put together in a final exhibition on Friday! Reflecting on last year and the queues, we are opening our doors from 2.30pm-3.10pm if you wanted to come at any point before pick-up and 3.20pm-4pm if you wanted to come with your child. Hopefully this will spread the queues for our highly anticipated Art Exhibition and my thanks to Mrs Gorsia who is leading this for us this year.
Your child has hopefully entered THE BIG SKETCH Competition! Ask them about their sketch of what they would like to see in the world!

LUCY "The Space” Family Support Idea for the Week:
Helping Siblings Get Along
It is very hard for children to have to share their parents. Having a sibling can very often make children worry that they aren’t enough and have lost their parent’s love. Age and personality differences can also cause a big clash and children do not yet have the perspective or the skills to work out those conflicts.
How can parents help?
When you need to set limits on how your children are interacting, use it as an opportunity to teach skills to get along with each other:
1. Acknowledge feelings or wants: “You wanted your sister to stop touching you, so you hit her”
2. Set limits: “No hitting. Hitting hurts.”
3. Teach alternatives: “Tell your sister ‘stop touching me, I don’t like it!’”
It is also important to never compare your children to each other, nor to other kids. Keep promoting and rewarding teamwork and cooperation and make sure they each get enough personal space- even if it is just a shelf in the cupboard for their own private possessions.
Finally, the underlying message from you should be: “There is more than enough for you, no matter what your sibling gets.”
