The week ahead 30th November 2025

Dear Glebe Families,

I am so, so proud of our Glebe community!  Your generosity with donations last Friday will really help us to offer an even better Christmas Fair this year – remember the date THURSDAY 11TH DECEMBER (and there is a final call for volunteers - see your PING from 12th November!) - thanks again to our PTFA for coordinating it. It is more spread out this year as we saw how popular it was last year!

Also, after school last Friday, our “staff Christmas Elves” stayed to sprinkle some Christmas magic throughout the school to bring a smile to your children’s faces tomorrow!  You will see it when you come for FAMILY FRIDAY on 12th December!

A great example of everyone making a positive difference together for our Glebe children.

FIVE REMINDERS FOR THE WEEK AHEAD:

1. GLEBE GAZETTE

Our monthly round up for November will be coming to you today so have a look at it.  It is a great opportunity to look at it with your child to talk about lots of things happening at Glebe!  If you have an idea for something else we could include or how to improve it, let any leader know on the gates when you see them, or email office@glebe.harrow.sch.uk

2. MEETING SANTA!

Santa will be with us at the Christmas Fair on 11th December!  However, to reduce queues at the fair after school, we will take our Nursery, Reception and Year 1 and Year 2 to go and visit him in his magical grotto in-school, during the school day.  We will ask you to send your child in with a £1 donation on the day, which will help them meet Santa and receive a little treat from him.

AND we do need a SANTA! CAN YOU HELP??  If you or anyone you know could help us out, let the office know or any leader on the school gate!

3. TESTS AND YOUR CHILD

Over the last month Y2-Y6 have been doing tests.  We have not let you know as we do not want the children over-prepared.  We need to know what they have learned, have retained and can apply.  This will inform our teacher assessment grades which will be shared with you on 16th December Autumn Reports via Arbor.

When you will come in early January for a parent meeting where we can look at where any learning gaps are so we work together to continue to help your child achieve personal bests.

LUCY "The Space” Family Support Idea for the Week:

How to listen so your child will talk

Parents often ask what they can say to get their child to talk. The secret isn't about what you say: it's about how you listen. The most important skill in talking with anyone is not lecturing, offering solutions, answering, or teaching. What children need from you is your full attention and empathy: that is what deep listening is.

How can parents help?

Even children who do not say much want to connect with you, so try to accept it on their terms. Connection does not always look like a deep meaningful conversation: it can be a hug, a high five, a long look in each other’s eyes. Children may also feel more comfortable talking while walking down the street or washing the dishes. It is OK for them not to hold eye contact as this may be their way of staying regulated while talking about something that feels difficult for them. When your child expresses his feelings about something, he needs you to listen and acknowledge, rather than jumping in with solutions. This means you may have to manage your own anxiety about the issue, which will allow him to find his own solutions to problems. Most importantly, pay full attention: put your phone down and be present. It will be a gift to both of you.

Sometimes we could all do with someone to talk to.

If you would like to meet Lucy Cohen for a confidential and non-judgemental chat about you, your child, or any other worries, they are available on Tuesdays from 9-10am.

You can call/text 07469705850 or email lucy@schoolscounsellingpartnership.co.uk
