The week ahead 28th September 2025

Dear Glebe Families,

Happy Sunday! How are you all?

We ended last week doing our bit as a community for a bigger cause as we held our Macmillan Coffee afternoon to raise funds to help those needing cancer support – thanks to all who came, the PTFA and of course Mrs Garara who leads on this for us each year.  So far, we have raised nearly £300 for MacMillan, which is an increase from last year – it will make a positive difference, so THANK YOU!

FIVE REMINDERS FOR THE WEEK AHEAD:

1. CELEBRATION

We were blown away raising nearly £3000 for us to purchase extra iPads and books for our children which is going to make a significant positive difference to Glebe.  Thank you to all of you who sponsored your child to complete the Ninja Assault Course, our PTFA for organising it, and a special mention to Amelia Vekaria for individually raised £337 for our school – well done Amelia!

2. CENTURY (online) Y2-Y6 HOMEWORK

Our children will be familiarising themselves with the new platform in school this week and next week!  They will also complete some diagnostic modules which will help the platform to set them an AI enabled personalised pathway for learning. We want to get them really confident with it before we set activities for homework so we will continue with the current homework arrangements until 13th October. Mrs Patel will write to you next week to share further details.

3. BLACK HISTORY MONTH

October is a national celebration and reflection on Black History.  We will learn about this in class, some extra workshops and through assemblies. Tomorrow in assembly, Mrs Patel will be launching this year’s Black History Month Celebration competition in assembly – more details next week.

Developing Friendship Skills

School is the place where children learn to navigate the world of friendships. At this age, alliances often shift and change. Learning to make friends and get along with peers can cause some distress to most children.

How can parents help? - It is important to listen to your child’s experiences with peer challenges. Instead of telling them what to do, help them problem-solve, and also to clarify and understand their feelings. It is always best to stay away from taking sides with either child- offer empathy for all of your child’s feelings, and also reflect together on how their peer might be feeling. Coach your child to stand up for themselves using their words and help them learn to express their needs rather than attacking their friend. It is helpful to practice this together!

Sometimes we could all do with someone to talk to.

If you would like to meet Lucy Cohen for a confidential and non-judgemental chat about you, your child, or any other worries, they are available on Tuesdays and Fridays from 9-10am.

You can call/text 07469705850 or email lucy@schoolscounsellingpartnership.co.uk

THE GLEBE GOSSIP POLL RESULTS FROM LAST WEEK:

3 questions...one on GLEBE, one on EDUCATION, one on LIFE.

Did you get involved last year?  Look out for this EVERY TUESDAY to be completed by THURSDAY and results shared on a SUNDAY!  It is a bit of fun and a way to easily capture what our Glebe community think and feel about school life and education...and indeed life!

So we can definitely do more to share about what your child is learning – we currently do termly newsletters and parent meetings, our new Family Fridays twice a half term and of course class assemblies and our monthly Glebe Gazette.  Look out after half term for our use of Class Dojo and the “story” function we will start to use.

AI seems to have you divided!  It is something we all need to embrace as it becomes more available, more evolved and more “typical” of how we live.  We will develop more opportunities to discuss this over the year. We will be using it to personalise an individual learning pathway for Y2 to Y6 children in their homework later next month.

This made us chuckle and thank you for the honesty!  Yes, mornings are manageable for our Glebe parents on a good day!  On a not so good day....just keep smiling and drinking coffee!
