The week ahead 23rd February 2025

Dear Glebe Families,

Hope you've all had a fantastic week! It’s been so nice to enjoy some warmer weather—let’s hope it sticks around!

Exciting news—we’ve had a big container delivered to our playground:

This will be extra storage for our PTFA and all our playground/PE equipment replacing the old damaged sheds. School Council has been chatting with their classes about new playground equipment to make playtimes even more fun, thanks to your incredible support and fundraising at PTFA events. Of course, we’ll need somewhere to keep it all! With the PTFA moving their resources into the container, we’re also freeing up a room inside the school. A big shoutout to School Council for taking the lead on this!

Our Reception children have also been busy and wrote to me with a brilliant idea—to set up a community food bank! Thanks to the extra room we will have inside the building as the PTFA move out, we can make this happen. What a thoughtful and generous idea—well done, Reception!

And finally, the container is not the prettiest in the world, so we’ll be launching an art competition to decorate the new playground storage unit with a mural sprayed onto it, designed by our children —stay tuned for more details next week!

FIVE REMINDERS FOR THE WEEK AHEAD:

1. UPDATE ON GLEBE’S FUTURE

We appreciated your positive comments about the future for Glebe at parent evening meetings before half term, and that we can continue to work together to keep on improving our school.  The continuity and continued progress is most important to you.  I am so pleased to be staying with Glebe as it is such a diversely beautiful community.  A formal consultation will start in the coming weeks subject to the Department for Education’s approval to proceed.

2. SUNDAY PING ON WEBSITE

Useful feedback from you was that this longer Sunday Ping was easier to read on the website and could be translated into different languages which was helpful when sharing with family members who did not speak English.  So, each Sunday, the PING will just have the website link!

3. WORLD BOOK DAY AHEAD

Thursday 6th March is World Book Day, where your child (and our staff) dress up as a favourite book character!  If you have an outfit from previous years which your child no longer fits in, we would love to have it to refresh and reuse for our community, so every child has something magical to wear that day.  Send donations to the office and Mrs Esmond will have them available for families needing new outfits, by the end of next week.

4. PINGS SENT LAST WEEK WHICH YOU NEED TO ACTION/BE AWARE OF:

ALL: Extracurricular club confirmations for Spring 2, Book Fair, World Book Day,

YEAR 2: Family Maths Workshops

YEAR 5: Greece Time Travel Day

YEAR 6: Residential Trip, SATS & HIgh School Meeting

5. CALENDAR DATES

As always, keep an eye on the school PING calendar and attached are the next 2 weeks!

PLEASE CHECK THE CALENDAR IN YOUR APP EACH WEEK!

Week ahead weather:

Sunshine, possible showers, but warmer than before half term!

LUCY "The Space” Family Support Idea for the Week:

Supporting your child who worries in social situations

Many children can be described as “shy”. Often, what this can mean is that they are very sensitive to their environment and can easily feel overwhelmed.  How can parents help?  Firstly, try to avoid labelling your child as “shy”, as he may think there is something wrong with him. Instead, be sure to stay sensitive to his needs and empathise with what he is finding difficult. Take the time to coach her on how to make friends and how to express her needs to others. Let him know that it is normal for everyone to feel a little uncomfortable when they first meet someone. Instead, after validating her feelings, let her know that she is capable of doing hard things.

On the horizon...

HOME/SCHOOL Communication reminders:
1. Learning/behaviour queries to class teachers
2. Email office@glebe.harrow.sch.uk if anything needs more support, and they will direct it to the right person
3. Please do not approach each other or children if there is a concern – speak to Glebe staff first

Remember everything on our website can be translated into different languages: www.glebe.harrow.sch.uk
