The week ahead 21st September 2025

Dear Glebe Families,

We had a brilliant experience on Friday, thanks to our PTFA!  The Ninja Warrior Assault course ran for nearly 8 hours, ensuring all children (and some staff and parents!) could test their resilience, strength and push their comfort zones with a new challenge.  All experiences like this will be something vivid children can write about, so we look forward to seeing what they produce!

Our PTFA team – you are awesome – thank you for going above and beyond for our children #gloriousglebe

Have a look at the video of the day: https://www.glebe.harrow.sch.uk/Whole-School-Events-2526

FIVE REMINDERS FOR THE WEEK AHEAD:

1. PTFA SPONSOR MONEY

Following on, now your children have taken part, please collect all the sponsor money as they succeeded in the challenge (and have the medal to prove it!) by sending in the cash with your child on Monday, or drop to the school office, or hand to one of us on the gates, or just add to it online: https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/glebeschool-ptfa?utm_medium=CR&utm_source=CL

So far we have reached the £2000 mark which is incredible!  Can we make it to £2500?  Let’s go for it!

We would love more volunteers from our 800 parents at Glebe, even if it is helping by doing things online for us rather than being at events.  Send your details to Ash at: 07940 171026

2. HIGH SCHOOLS

A few Y4 and Y5 parents were talking to us about High Schools for their children when they get to the end of Y6.  Here is the breakdown of where our children went last year:

Open Events at secondary schools happen in September and October and some THIS WEEK - it is never to early to start looking as it is a big decision: https://www.harrow.gov.uk/downloads/file/33301/Secondary_Open_Evenings_2026_27_intake.pdf

No booking required, just turn up!

Claremont is in Brent and their entry requirements are different to Harrow.

3.  MACMILLAN COFFEE AFTERNOON!

Don’t forget on Friday 26th September we are holding a MacMillan Coffee AFTERNOON in the hall from 2.30pm-3.30pm for families and the local community.  We had a lower attendance in the morning last year, so we are trying an afternoon!  We will provide the coffee, tea etc and ask for cake donations brought in on Thursday 25th September or the morning of Friday 26th September.  Come along with a friend or a neighbour and let us do our bit for charity.  Our thanks to Mrs Garara and our PTFA for leading this for us.

LUCY "The Space” Family Support Idea for the Week:

Reconnecting time

Children naturally look to their parents for nurturing and guidance, especially in the current climate we find ourselves in. It is a stressful and anxious time for most people and sometimes we forget to reconnect with our children, asking how they feel or just opening conversation about their day, allowing time to reconnect with each other. Maybe we have forgotten how we feel ourselves, have you had 5 minutes to check in with your feelings today? Take a few breathes, pause, and ask yourself how you are doing today.

How can parents help?  Try to spend half an hour of Special Time, one-on-one, every day (or as often as you can).  This seems so simple that most parents under-estimate the impact.  Take it in turns to talk and to listen, maybe engage in an activity that is fun!  It does not always have to be just talking, reconnecting is about finding ways to enjoy the time together, it might bring a smile to your face, embrace the fun.

Sometimes we could all do with someone to talk to.

If you would like to meet Lucy Cohen for a confidential and non-judgemental chat about you, your child, or any other worries, they are available on Tuesdays from 9-10am.

You can call/text 07469705850 or email lucy@schoolscounsellingpartnership.co.uk

THE GLEBE GOSSIP POLL RESULTS FROM LAST WEEK:

3 questions...one on GLEBE, one on EDUCATION, one on LIFE.

GLEBE:

Quite a fair split between maths, phonics and reading and behaviour and routines – we will put together a plan and come back to you.  I will message parents who had a “something else” idea to see what else we could offer – thank you 😊

EDUCATION:

75% of you are either all in on this like this idea or definitely swaying towards it.  We will look into ideas/options and come back to Y4 parents in particular.

LIFE:

The majority of our Glebe parents are on Instagram (and a large number use no social media).  We had not realised so many use Facebook too, so we have created a Facebook account which will link with our Instagram account so you can follow us on there too:  https://www.facebook.com/gloriousglebe   We will add you as a friend for privacy.
