The week ahead 1st February 2026
Dear Glebe Families,
Welcome to “Friendly February”, and goodbye to January! Hurrah! We share again the Action-For-Happiness calendar which can prompt us all to make a positive difference to the world! More on FRIENDLY FEBRUARY here: https://actionforhappiness.org/calendar
And don’t forget our JANUARY Glebe Gazette, and it is also on our website:
https://www.glebe.harrow.sch.uk/News/Glebe-Gazette-2025-2026/
Our monthly Gazettes both celebrate some of our great learning achievements at Glebe along with the personal development and wellbeing focus for our children at Glebe, and support us in making a positive difference together for our children – it is a great bit of reading to share with your child!

2. NAME YOUR CHILD’S BELONGINGS!
We have 12 gorgeous winter coats with no names on! Please ensure you NAME all your child’s belongings and check it isn’t worn out or washed off. If your child has lost something, our lost property area is by the white doors where Miss Esmond and Miss Patel usually stand at the start and end of each day!
3. SAFER INTERNET DAY TUESDAY 10TH FEBRUARY
NEXT TUESDAY we ask all parents/carers to join us to look at the latest online safety news. It is ever changing and we need to work in partnership to keep all children and young people safe online.
This is an example of risks you may not realise about ROBLOX:
Roblox is currently facing ongoing challenges due to safeguarding protocols the ease in which adult strangers can contact children through their chat features due to weak age verification and allowing explicit content on the platform.
We advise every parent to:
- Check their child’s ROBLOX account (and any other online games they use)
- Check that their online friends are known
- Speak with your child about staying safe online and monitor their usage

LUCY "The Space” Family Support Idea for the Week:
Talking to Your Child About A Bereavement
When a family experiences the death of a loved one—whether expected or sudden—it can be one of the most difficult times for both adults and children. Children need support, honesty, and reassurance to help them understand what has happened and how to cope with their grief.
Even very young children are aware when something significant has happened. While we may want to protect them from pain, children cope best when they are told the truth in a gentle and age-appropriate way.
🗣️ How to Talk to Your Child About a Death
Be honest and clear
Use direct but simple language. Avoid saying someone “went to sleep” or “went away,” which can be confusing or frightening. You might say:
“I have some very sad news. Grandma has died. That means her body stopped working and she can’t come back.”
Acknowledge feelings
Let your child know that it's okay to cry, to feel angry, sad, or even confused. Reassure them that whatever they are feeling is normal.
Share your own feelings
It’s helpful for children to see that adults grieve too. Saying something like, “I feel sad too, and I’m here for you,” models healthy emotional expression.
Answer their questions
Children may ask practical or blunt questions. Try to answer honestly, even if you don’t know all the answers. It’s okay to say: “That’s a really good question. I’m not sure, but we can think about it together.”
Reassure them
Let them know they are safe, loved, and that routines will continue where possible. Children often worry about who will care for them next.
👨👩👧 Supporting Them Day to Day
- Keep routines where possible – This helps children feel secure.
- Talk about memories – Looking at photos or sharing stories can bring comfort.
- Encourage creative expression – Drawing, writing, or play can help children express emotions.
- Let the school know – they can offer emotional support and make appropriate adjustments in class.
🧠 Signs a Child May Be Struggling With Grief
Every child responds to loss differently, but watch for:
- Changes in sleep, appetite, or mood
- Withdrawal from friends or activities
- Difficulties concentrating in school
- Physical complaints (e.g. headaches, stomach-aches)
- Regression (e.g. bedwetting, clinginess in younger children)
Sometimes we could all do with someone to talk to.
If you would like to meet Lucy Cohen for a confidential and non-judgemental chat about you, your child, or any other worries, they are available on Tuesdays from 9-10am.
You can call/text 07469705850 or email lucy@schoolscounsellingpartnership.co.uk
