The week ahead 18th January 2026
Dear Glebe Families,
I hope you are having a fab weekend!
Now, Monday is officially BLUE MONDAY, the most depressing day of the year!
https://www.awarenessdays.com/awareness-days-calendar/blue-monday/
We want our Glebe community to make it BRIGHT MONDAY, and to spread it far and wide! So, make that extra effort to smile at each other tomorrow, say good morning to each other in the playground and extra hugs to your family!
Our staff are fans of Action for Happiness calendars – have a look: https://actionforhappiness.org/all-calendars

Making a positive difference together!
FIVE REMINDERS FOR THE WEEK AHEAD:
1. “READY RESPECTFUL SAFE”
We have high expectations for every one of our 588 children. We reward good choices in learning behaviour and behaviour around the school with CLASS DOJO points, which contribute to house team totals; we also celebrate success through Phase Achievement Assemblies and in our monthly Glebe Gazette.
We celebrate children being the best they can be.
Sometimes children make wrong choices and our 70 staff are consistent on how we manage wrong behaviour choices. This links to our Behaviour Policy page 14, which outlines the Consequences we use for wrong choices, which are recorded on Arbor and you can see in your termly reports and on the app. We also use a Circle Back approach when things go wrong, to teach children how to reflect on the wrong choice and see how the right choices could have made a difference:
For more information, chat to any leader, or ask for a meeting with the class teacher or more importantly, talk with your child about what Ready, Respectful and Safe means at Glebe and "Circle Back".
2. ONLINE SAFETY PARENT WORKSHOP: Tuesday 10th February 8.45am-9.15am
After Y4C's brilliant reminder in last week's class assembly, over the coming weeks we will increase awareness of online safety leading up to Safer Internet Day on 10th February. On the 10th, we are also running a parent workshop to share information and give you ideas on the risks and how to keep your child safe. In the meantime, do a health check with your child and their devices – what do they use? What have they saved? What pages have they visited? Who do they talk to online? Can you access their iPad or Tablet, phone, or games console, or do they hold the logins? Let’s work together to ensure we keep our children safe online.
3. ILLEGAL STREET PARKING
We were doing so well, with our entire community committing to keeping our children safe on Glebe Avenue and D’Arcy Gardens and being considerate towards local residents. A week of cold and wet weather, and some parent bad habits have started again. HUMANS ARE WATERPROOF! Of course, we don’t like getting wet (or being cold) but parking a bit further away and being in the rain or cold for 10 minutes is manageable for all of us and reduces risk to our children! My leaders and I stand on the gates in every weather for about 40 minutes a day in all weathers – it can be done!
I have submitted the three photos below to Harrow Council of our parents parked illegally, and the Council’s traffic officer caught another three parents on Friday. Please, stop breaking the law and please keep our children safe - the black car below caused a significant jam and danger because of illegal parking.

LUCY "The Space” Family Support Idea for the Week:
LEARNING and WANTING to do the right thing
Children develop their ‘inner compass’ every day. They learn what they live, primarily by the example you set and the family culture that you create.
How can parents help?
The most powerful way to teach a child a skill is to model it. When you treat others (including your child) with respect, when you apologise and when you regulate your emotions- then your child learns to do the same. Her inner compass will take shape from yours. In addition, your child constantly needs to make difficult choices so instead of telling him off and shaming him for making a “poor” choice, use it as an opportunity to develop that compass: help him reflect on how he feels and explain that we are all tempted to take the easy way over the right way: we are not perfect, but we can do better. In order to help your child, WANT to do the right thing, make sure your limits are reasonable and age-appropriate. Set them up for success so that they can feel good about being a person who does the right thing. Finally, help your child repair relationships following any damage and remember to stay connected: when your child feels you are on their side, they are more likely to WANT to follow your lead.
Sometimes we could all do with someone to talk to.
If you would like to meet Lucy Cohen for a confidential and non-judgemental chat about you, your child, or any other worries, they are available on Tuesdays from 9-10am.
You can call/text 07469705850 or email lucy@schoolscounsellingpartnership.co.uk
GLEBE GOSSIP POLL:
Views from 158 parents this week:

Ha ha, unsurprising it is friends! Great to see so many more children talking about learning. And those children who say "I forgot" will hopefully do better, as we launch Class Dojo STORY to parents later this half term (we are just ensuring our teachers are confident on using it first!)

Really useful feedback - the world for parents has changed from 5 or 10 years ago. We will look at a hybrid option next term so those wanting face-to-face meetings can have them, and those wanting online can also have the option.

It is that winter comfort of a hot meal and watching something as a family online or on TV, or getting the homework done first before relaxing, that were most popular. Thankfully we are half way through winter...Spring is getting closer!
