The week ahead 16th March 2025
Dear Glebe Families,
I hope you are enjoying a sunny Sunday! We are still buzzing from our brilliant community Holi event on Friday. Thank you all so much for being a part of something so special! Miss Esmond has pulled together a video for us again so have a look at it in the School PING message! #gloriousglebe
This week is Red Nose Day for Comic Relief. We have done a lot of extra things this month, so it will be a normal day on Friday, but your children are welcome to wear their Comic Relief red noses if they have one – it is a NORMAL UNIFORM day!
FIVE REMINDERS FOR THE WEEK AHEAD:
1. EASTER BONNET PARADE
On Friday 4th April we will have our Glebe Easter Bonnet parade! This is a favourite event for our community! It will happen after drop off in the morning, starting at 8.45am, and finishing around 9.45am. It will have a slightly different format, but as always we will communicate this to you in advance. For now, get the date in your diary, and start to get your child’s creative minds working on their “Easter Bonnet”!
2. COMMUNITY BEHAVIOUR
Our staff, especially our office staff, try and be as available as possible for our Glebe community. They may have multiple interactions with adults, children, emails and phone calls at the start and the end of the day. We really appreciate how our Glebe parents appreciate this and wait patiently and work politely in partnership with our staff.
There may be times our office staff cannot give an instant answer to a question or query – please accept this in the moment, and trust they will refer to a senior leader to find an answer and come back to you as soon as possible. Thanks for supporting our positive Glebe partnership ethos.
3. BREAKFAST AND AFTER SCHOOL CLUB FROM 22ND APRIL
Following on from last week, we are firming our plans for:
1. A Glebe-led paid breakfast club from 7.30am

LUCY "The Space” Family Support Idea for the Week:
Helping your child find their CALM
When your child feels a big emotion such as anger, worry or sadness, they will find it very difficult to listen to your instructions, to think or even sometimes to find their words to let you know what they need. This is because when our feelings get so big, our “thinking/upstairs brain” goes offline and disconnects from our “feeling/downstairs brain”. We call this “flipping our lids”. As a result, your child can act out their emotion by misbehaving, withdrawing and going quiet, becoming extra clingy to you or having a teary meltdown.
How can parents help?
Your child will need your help to find their calm again so that they can listen to you, use their words instead of their body to communicate how they are feeling and choose more positive behaviour. As always, it is essential that you find your calm first. It can also be helpful to have either a “calm space” or simply a “calm box” in your home for them to use when they feel in their body that they are having a big emotion (hot cheeks, knot in the tummy, tight fists, etc). In this space or box, have various simple items that can help them: a fidget toy, a squishy ball to squeeze, a little cuddly toy, etc. Also encourage some deep belly breathing. Once they feel calmer, they are ready to listen and to talk, you can check in with them and think together about what happened.
