The Week Ahead 6th October 2024

Dear Glebe Families,

What a great 90th birthday we had on Friday! We thank each of you for the efforts you made to dress your child in 1930s attire and our staff for embracing a day of 1930s fashion and education!  We hope your child enjoyed learning more about their school. Seeing so many families for the open morning and former families and staff after school to relive their memories of Glebe was wonderful. We are going to display more about our 90th along our entrance corridor and it will be the main feature for our October Glebe Gazette! #gloriousglebe

FIVE REMINDERS FOR THE WEEK AHEAD:

1. LOST PROPERTY

The missing scooter was found (thank you)! Moving forward, due to many children somehow misplacing their jumpers and coats or lunchboxes, please ensure your child’s name and class are written on EVERYTHING! Our lost property is kept by the entrance doors in the playground.

2. FLU IMMUNISATIONS

We sent you all a school PING message on 23rd September (it may be under “My Messages”). The link to complete to protect your child from seasonal flu illnesses is here – you are also asked to complete it if you are choosing for your child NOT to have the flu immunisation: https://nwl.schoolvaccination.uk/flu/2024/harrow  I have reattached the letters. Please complete by FRIDAY 18TH OCTOBER (or ideally today!)

3. EYFS WORKSHOP DATE CHANGED

To avoid a clash with parent/carer evening, the workshop for parents and carers of children in the Nursery and Reception will now be on Monday 4th November 9am and 6pm. This has been changed in the online calendar in PING too!

4. COLLINS E-BOOKS

We are currently in the process of re-issuing log-ins for children in Reception, so we hope to get these to you soon.

5. CALENDAR DATES

As always, we need you to keep an eye on the school PING calendar, so nothing is missed!  Things coming up this week include: Y1 Phonics workshops, Y4S Class assembly, Parent/Carer coffee afternoon to discuss neurodiversity, the deadline for Black History Month Art entries and of course, Y4 swimming!

I also want to remind Glebe families we are doing some events differently this year, as shared at the Meet the Team meetings in September.  Our Christmas performance will be led by Nursery and Reception.  In the Spring Term, our Y4s will do a production musical show and as always, our Y6s will do the same in the summer term.  Class assemblies happen throughout the year and musical performance dates will be confirmed closer to the time.  We are doing less but aiming for a higher quality in our performances for families.

Week ahead weather:

A warmish week ahead of sunshine and showers.  Keep an eye on Wednesday as the leftovers of Hurricane Erik are due to head to the UK!

LUCY "The Space” Family Support Idea for the Week:

Nurturing Yourself While Nurturing Your Child

Self-care is essential for all parents. Not only to stay patient but also to keep finding joy and delight that is present every day with your children- even on the difficult ones.

How can parents help?

Try to tune into yourself as much as possible throughout the day. Take deep breaths whenever you can, breathing in calm and breathing out stress. When you are feeling irritable, it is important to stop and think about what it is you need right now to stay balanced: can you sit outside for 5 minutes or put on some music and dance? Have a glass of water? Plan something you can do for yourself later, once they are in bed. Finally, being present and slowing down will help you to take in the joy of every moment with your child and will replenish your spirit.

On the horizon...

We will send out details this week to sign up for parent/carer 1:1 meetings on the last week of this half-term

As always, if you have any concerns or queries, use our communication guide so we can respond as soon as possible to: https://www.glebe.harrow.sch.uk/Parents/Communication
