The Week Ahead 29th September 2024

Dear Glebe Families,

Happy Sunday! How are you all?

We ended last week doing our bit as a community for a bigger cause. Whilst it was a small turnout, we held our Macmillan Coffee morning to raise funds to help those needing cancer support – thanks to all who came and Mrs Garara and Mrs Gupta for organising it.  So far, we have raised £190 of our £250 target – if you are able to donate, would welcome extra donations online: https://cm24.macmillan.org.uk/fundraising/CM24035463

FIVE REMINDERS FOR THE WEEK AHEAD:

1. HOME LEARNING

Your patience has been appreciated.  Google classrooms will go back online from Monday - a letter confirming username and password will come home with your child next week so you can log in.  New Planning Homework Diaries for Y5 and Y6 are ordered; we will let you know when they arrive.

2. THE NOURISH APP

Last Thursday we welcomed parents/carers to come and try the delicious free food we provide all our children, and your feedback was you loved it too! This THURSDAY we have a special themed lunch as we celebrate Mr Nourish’s birthday! It is free for all children and there is nothing to do from your side, except discuss the menu with your child and send them in for a fabulous lunch!  See more in Monday’s September Glebe Gazette!

In addition, as I mentioned last summer, NOURISH now have the NOURISH App! Just download the app, sign up and use school code: (ask school office or see in your school Ping app)

In the app are recipes, books, information on allergens and your direct contact portal with Nourish.  Search for the Nourish App in your app store (a photo of the app logo is attached).

3. CALENDAR DATES

Remember we are using the calendar in the School PING app to make life easier for families and have information in one place.  Attached is a screenshot of the October dates.  Please check it.  If another parent/carer says they do not receive PING messages in the app, please send them to a leader on duty in the playground or ask them to come into the school office so we can help.

4. EVENTS REQUIRING YOUR ASSISTANCE

Your child will have their individual school photos on TUESDAY this week.  If it is normally a PE day we ask them to come in their NORMAL SCHOOL UNIFORM and NOT their PE kit on Tuesday.  Please make a note and remind each other!  Sibling photos will happen in June.

As publicised, this FRIDAY we have our 1930s GLEBE 90TH BIRTHDAY DAY.  All children to come in 1930s school clothes (Just a white shirt and black trousers/skirts plus shoes and long black socks – if it is tricky, do not stress!) - your child could also try a 1930s hairstyle! Parents/Carers are invited in after drop-off to come and hear of our history and come and see their child in class in our open morning until 9.30am.  After school, we have invited former staff and families to also come for a tour.  Our staff will also be dressed up for this important event!

5. BLACK HISTORY MONTH

October is a national celebration and reflection on Black History.  We will learn about this in class and through assemblies.  Last Thursday you also received a PING about our Black History Month art competition.  The deadline for entries is 9am Thursday 10th October.

Week ahead weather:

Heavy rain to start this week, with slightly less on Wednesday and Thursday, and a drier Friday is currently forecast.

LUCY "The Space” Family Support Idea for the Week:

“How can parents/carers help?  Try to spend half an hour of Special Time, one-on-one, every day (or as often as you can) with each child.  This seems so simple that most parents under-estimate the impact.  Take it in turns to talk and to listen, maybe engage in an activity that is fun!  It does not always have to be just talking, reconnecting is about finding ways to enjoy the time together, it might bring a smile to your face, embrace the fun.”

On the horizon...

Glebe Gazette - our monthly round up with come out on Monday!
