The Week Ahead 29th June 2025

Dear Glebe Families,

Our June Glebe Gazette went out last week, and I could not feel prouder of our school!  There was so much to celebrate, and seeing your children learn, enjoy school, and create memories has been heartwarming to witness.  We have also shared staffing changes for the next academic year – have a look to see who is sadly leaving us and who is joining us at Glebe: https://www.glebe.harrow.sch.uk/News/Glebe-Gazette/ (It is a big one this month so may take a minutes to load up - please be patient!)

It is a big week for transition this week.  We will send a PING to families on Monday afternoon, letting you know your child’s new class teacher and sharing their teacher fact file too!  Then on Wednesday most of our Y6s visit their new High Schools and our current Reception to Y5 (and new Reception families) will be meeting their new teachers and for the current Y1, Y3 and Y4 they will mix in their new classes.

Please help your child by getting them excited about the transition to a new class and how they are developing into fantastic learners.

FIVE REMINDERS FOR THE WEEK AHEAD:

1. FUN & FITNESS WEEK

All next week is our Fun and Fitness week.  ALL children can wear sporty clothing all week – no uniform.  On their SPORTS CAROUSEL DAY they MUST wear clothes in their House Team colours.  If you or your child are unsure of their house team, it is on GOOGLE CLASSROOM or TAPESTRY so you can check.

With the hot weather, ensure your child has a SUN HAT, LAYER OF HIGH-FACTOR SUN PROTECTION, and FREEZE THEIR WATER BOTTLE overnight.

If you are unsure about anything, check the PINGS sent out last week or email office@glebe.harrow.sch.uk

2. SUMMER FESTIVAL – WE NEED RAFFLE PRIZES!

Thank you so much for supporting with donations last Friday for the Summer Festival.  We would love to host another amazing Raffle, just like we did at Christmas, but we need your help!  If you run a business, have a friend or family member who does, and could donate a prize, a voucher, or a service, we would greatly appreciate your help in hosting a fantastic raffle.  Please email details to office@glebe.harrow.sch.uk   or message Bhavnita on 07930 403814

Remember, Saturday 12th July 11am-2pm is our Summer Festival!

3. READY RESPECTFUL SAFE

As you know, and hopefully your child tells you, our approach to good behaviour is ready, respectful and safe choices.  When the weather gets warmer, we can all feel more irritable, and this can affect our good ready, respectful and safe behaviour choices!  Please talk with your child about how you expect them to behave and to manage themselves if the warm weather affects them this way – your support as the parent is appreciated!  See Lucy’s guide below on keeping your cool!

LUCY "The Space” Family Support Idea for the Week:

What to do when you feel your temper rising…

We all have triggers- our children certainly do and so do we! So, what can you do when you feel your temper rising? We often feel an urgent need to DO something, but that is our emergency response system operating. Quite often, however, you do not need to DO anything… other than notice what you are feeling, breathe your way through it and restore yourself to calm before you act.  How can parents help?   First of all, know your triggers. What happens in you when your buttons have been pushed? If you can catch it early, you are more likely to feel you have a choice in your response.  If no physical intervention is absolutely required (in safety situations), just hold still and breathe. Resist taking action for now and work hard to see things from your child’s point of view: what do they need your help with? Finally, always choose love, not fear: set a limit but do it with empathy, move into a playful mode and always be ready to offer a hug.

3 questions...one on GLEBE, one on EDUCATION, one on LIFE.

The results are in (233 parents/carers took part last week) :

WORKSHOP & MEETING TIMES FOR PARENT/CARERS

You have confirmed two overall preferences - straight after drop-off or pre-recorded so you can watch at your leisure at home!  We will work on this plan!

NATIONAL CURRICULUM VIEWS

As parents, you are definitely happy with the knowledge part, but there is a need for more on life skills too - we are reviewing our curriculum for 25-26 and will try to incorporate more on this whilst aiming higher on the national curriculum knowledge needed for statutory assessments.

WHEN YOU WERE 16...
What a mix of responses!  It seems like our Glebe parents have had very, very different life experiences, some good, some great and some that sound like they need a good chat over a cup of "something" to drink!

On the horizon...

7th-11th July: Art Week including an Art Exhibition

Saturday 12th July: 11am-2pm Our Summer Festival!

Tuesday 22nd July at 2pm: END OF TERM

HOME/SCHOOL Communication reminders:
1. Learning/behaviour queries to class teachers
2. Email office@glebe.harrow.sch.uk if anything needs more support, and they will direct it to the right person
3. Please do not approach each other or the children if there is a concern – speak to Glebe staff first
