The Week Ahead 22nd September 2024

Dear Glebe Families,

Happy Equinox! We are at the astronomical point of the year where we have 12 hours of daylight and 12 hours of darkness, before the night times get longer.  Like me, start taking those Vitamin D supplements now!

You may not have seen me on the gates as much last week as we had a two-day visit from our school improvement partner.  We looked at learning in every class, along with behaviour and checking on safeguarding, She spoke with leaders on our plans for the year ahead.  With her feedback we have reviewed our school development plan priorities for the year ahead – see the image below.  We will report back to you on our progress in these areas over the year.

FIVE REMINDERS FOR THE WEEK AHEAD:

1. HOME LEARNING

All classes have migrated to their new Google Classrooms online, but we are having technical issues with Google Classroom.  It should be resolved this week, but if not we will send home paper instructions for what needs to be completed and ensure everyone has a login.

2. Y4 SWIMMING

You may have heard that Harrow Leisure Centre is now open again.  So we are delighted to take Y4s swimming on a Thursday morning.  Y4 parents have had a letter too, but a reminder that children can wear any colour swimming cap, we take the coach there and back, we have male and female staff supporting, a first aider and Ms Sy Cyr will attend this Thursday as part of our safeguarding checks. Enjoy it Year 4 - let’s create a Glebe 2036 Olympic Swimmer!

3. SCOOTERS AND BIKES IN THE PLAYGROUND

A little reminder to please stop your child scooting and riding in the playground – lots of little children and people with mobility needs should be considered.  Your support is appreciated.

4. MACMILLAN COFFEE MORNING!

Don’t forget on Friday 27th September we are holding a MacMillan Coffee Morning in the hall from 8.45am-9.30am for families and the local community.  We will provide the coffee, tea etc and ask for cake donations brought in on Thursday 26th September.  Come along with a friend or a neighbour and let us do our bit for charity.  Our thanks to Mrs Garara for leading this for us.

5. CALENDAR DATES

Thanks for your feedback - the calendar is working in School Ping so we will start adding more dates to it for easier access.  Access it via app and the three little horizontal lines top left. Remember you may need to refresh it.

LUCY "The Space” Support Idea for the Week:

Lucy Cohen our in-school Counselling Manager, will share ideas for families to support their wellbeing each week:

Reconnecting time

Children naturally look to their parents for nurturing and guidance. Our lives are often very busy with competing demands for our attention and sometimes we forget to reconnect with our children.  Asking how they feel or just opening a conversation about their day, allows time to reconnect with each other. Maybe we have forgotten how we feel ourselves, have you had 5 minutes to check in with your feelings today? Take a few breaths, pause, and ask yourself how you are doing today.

On the horizon...

Friday 4th October: Glebe’s 90th Celebrations start with a parent/carer open session 8.45am-9.30am and an after-school session for current and previous families and ex-staff to come back and visit Glebe and see our archive of historic photos and books from years gone by!

As always, if you have any concerns or queries, use our communication guide so we can respond as soon as possible to: https://www.glebe.harrow.sch.uk/Parents/Communication/

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
