The Week Ahead 20th October 2024

Dear Glebe Families,

Reflection on Autumn 1:

Can you believe 7 weeks of school have passed and we now head into the final week before a half term break?! It has flown by!  It has been a positive start to our Glebe year.  I hope you can see our systems are improving, our curriculum is developing and we are all working hard to make a positive difference together.  We know there is more to do but we have really appreciated your compliments regarding what is working well for you and your child, and also letting us know if something is not.  We look forward to seeing you all at one of our parent/carer meetings this week!

FIVE REMINDERS FOR THE WEEK AHEAD:

1. TELEPHONE LINES

We have had issues with the O2 network regarding our phonelines which are very inconsistent if people phone in.  Over half term we are upgrading our phone lines and phone systems which will include all rooms and offices having a phone and multiple phone lines into school using the latest fibre links. This will also support our “lockdown” procedures should we ever need them and we will talk more after half term with you and your children about these. You have been incredibly patient, and we really appreciate it.  Thank you for your support on this.

2. FINAL REMINDER: FLU IMMUNISATIONS

We sent you all a school PING message on 23rd September (it may be under “My Messages”). The link to complete to protect your child from seasonal flu illnesses is here – EVERYONE IS ASKED TO COMPLETE IT:  https://nwl.schoolvaccination.uk/flu/2024/harrow   Please complete ASAP.  This will take place on Thursday and/or Friday this week.

3. PARTY BIRTHDAY BAGS

With children with food allergies and some children unable to have some things, we are asking families to not send in party bag for their child’s birthday (as lovely as they are).  Instead, purchasing a book or set of books for the in-class library would be hugely appreciated.  You and your child can write a message on the inside cover and leave it as a legacy for all children at Glebe.

4. PARENT/CARER MEETINGS

You have your appointments for Monday or Wednesday.  Please arrive 10 minutes before hand to look through your child’s English and Maths books in Y1-Y6.  We will be aiming to keep everyone to time so if leaders pop in and remind you of timings, please do not be offended.  Mr Sankey will also run an “IT hot-desk" at the school office if you need help with School Ping or ParentPay and can take your details for any other queries.  We are looking forward to seeing you!

Entrance will only be via the MAIN ENTRANCE from 3.40pm-6pm as we have clubs in the playground after school and cannot leave the playground gates open.  MAGNA arrangements are as usual for their after school club.

5. CALENDAR DATES

As always, keep an eye on the school PING calendar which is updated to December now! Things coming up this week include:

Week ahead weather:

A damp start and end to the week but Tuesday and Wednesday look pleasant!

LUCY "The Space” Family Support Idea for the Week:

A really helpful parenting tool…

Parenting can feel so hard. There will be moments when your buttons are pushed and you feel stressed, overloaded, and exhausted. However, there is a tool that can help you get through those difficult moments.

What can parents do?

Use your PAUSE button. Whenever you start to feel angry or irritated with your child’s behaviour, stop what you are doing and take three deep breaths- or as many as you need! Take a moment to use an image or a thought that will help you to feel calmer. Once you feel calmer, you will be able to choose a response based on connection, rather than react in anger or worry. It takes some practice, but it does get easier!

On the horizon...
