The Week Ahead 19th October 2025
Dear Glebe Families,
We loved Friday! What a great day!
Friday captured what Glebe is about – a community. Whether it was coming in for Family Friday or remembering it was a non-uniform day, or joining in DiwaliFest, it was all about working together and helping our children to shine.
With Family Friday, we loved seeing families getting stuck into learning with their child in the classroom - it is so encouraging and inspiring for children, and our staff shared how they saw your child beam when you came to see them. Thanks also to our staff for being so open to Family Fridays - we all make a positive difference together!
And for those celebrating over the coming days, HAPPY DIWALI & NEW YEAR!

FIVE REMINDERS FOR THE WEEK AHEAD:
1. THANK YOUs!
It is so important to remember to say thank you! Thanks to our PTFA for working to run three incredible events this half term – the Ninja Course, DiwaliFest and our Halloween Disco. Thanks to all of you who support the running of these events, or help with fundraising for them. It all makes a difference. Thank you to the Glebe staff team who are working together to maintain what is effective and improve through learning and evaluation, while caring for nearly 600 children for 7 hours a day. Finally, thank you to our children – keep focusing on our School Development Plan 3: Continuous Personal Bests, and we know you can achieve even more next half term.
Take a moment when you read this to think about someone in your life who could appreciate a thank you call, text, email of social media post – it makes a positive difference!
2. BLACK HISTORY MONTH
We have had special assemblies, live webinar workshops, in-school artists, and we have explored black history themed texts in our lessons, to celebrate the successes and learn from the challenges of black communities over many, many the years. A final reminder to send your child to school tomorrow with their Black History Month competition piece if they have not yet done so.
It would be great to reinforce their learning as a family – to learn more about Black History Month, go to: https://www.blackhistorymonth.org.uk/
3. PARTY BIRTHDAY BAGS
We have seen some lovely party bags with no sweets in but other bits which is great! With children with food allergies and some children unable to have some things, we are asking families to not send in a bag of sweets or chocolates for their child’s birthday (as lovely as the idea is). Instead, purchasing a book or set of books for the in-class library would be hugely appreciated.
You and your child can write a message on the inside cover and leave it as a legacy for all children at Glebe.

LUCY "The Space” Family Support Idea for the Week:
A really helpful parenting tool…
Parenting can feel so hard. There will be moments when your buttons are pushed and you feel stressed, overloaded, and exhausted, maybe now more so than ever. However, there is a tool that can help you get through those difficult moments and that can keep you from saying things that you will feel sorry about later.
What can parents do?
Use your PAUSE button. Whenever you start to feel angry or irritated with your child’s behaviour, stop what you are doing and take three deep breaths- or as many as you need! Take a moment to use an image or a thought that will help you to feel calmer. Remind yourself that this is not an emergency and think of something you really love about your child. Once you feel calmer, you will be able to choose a response based on connection, rather than react in anger or worry. It takes some practice, but it does get easier!
Sometimes we could all do with someone to talk to.
If you would like to meet Lucy Cohen for a confidential and non-judgemental chat about you, your child, or any other worries, they are available on Tuesdays from 9-10am.
You can call/text 07469705850 or email lucy@schoolscounsellingpartnership.co.uk
