The Week Ahead 18th May 2025

SUNDAY 18TH MAY

Dear Glebe Families,

Bizarrely, we are coming up to the last week of term already! Summer 1 is a short half term and Summer 2 is a long one!

However, we had our HIGHEST ATTENDANCE WEEK of the year so far with...97% of our children were in school EVERY DAY LAST WEEK!That puts us in the top 10% of schools nationally last week! WELL DONE EVERYONE!

Praise to the whole school for supporting our Y6 children during the national SATs week.  For over 500 children and adults to keep the school quiet...almost silent whilst tests happened, demonstrates the teamwork and togetherness of our school and I am very proud.

More test and assessment weeks are happening.  Nationally, Y1 and some Y2s have their phonics screening, Y2 sit their version of SATS, and Y4 have their Multiplication Tables check week beginning 9th June.  For our own Glebe assessments, EYFS have their final observation assessments, and Y1-Y5 will also have their tests between 3rd June and 13th June, which will help to inform our final teacher assessments of attainment, which will be shared with you in their end-of-year reports sent home on Thursday 10th July.

Learning and attainment is improving at Glebe.  We have more to do, and the trajectory is looking positive.

FIVE REMINDERS FOR THE WEEK AHEAD:

1. LOST PROPERTY & UNIFORM REMINDER

I reckon we have about £500 of unclaimed and unnamed coats, jumpers, lunch bags and water bottles waiting to be found!  Each day, we display these on the table by the white doors in the playground.  Please come and have a look.  Anything left on Friday this week will be taken to charity shops as we cannot continue to store it.

Similarly, this is a reminder about uniforms. In April, we reiterated the expectation that all children MUST have the new logo jumpers by SEPTEMBER. We also warmly accept donations of jumpers in good condition with the NEW logo on if they no longer fit your child—we can redistribute them. Please pop them in the box by the office.

2. SUMMER FESTIVAL – SUPPORT OUR COMMUNITY!

We are putting a final call out to our Glebe community so we finalise your Summer Festival on SATURDAY 12TH JULY 11am-2pm.  If you can help, donate, encourage your workplace or company to donate a raffle prize, or just give an hour to help set up, it would be brilliant.  Please complete this form today: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScjgJMJQ4PZcYaFTKcJbgNMFUGDhEXN9UYEoqIV1CIgOy7d6Q/viewform?usp=preview

We will also hold a final opportunity for past Glebe pupils to tour the school and look at our registers, photos, and memorabilia from over nine decades at the Summer Festival! If you know anyone who used to go to Glebe, please make sure they have the date in their diary!

3. GLEBE GOSSIP POLL!

After half term, we are sending out a weekly Glebe Gossip poll!  Ok, not gossip, but it will be a quick form to capture your views on school, education, life!  We will share them in our Sunday PINGs.  The topics may be serious but also fun – the more who take part, the more interesting the results will be! It will take less than 30 seconds to respond! Look out for your GLEBE GOSSIP POLL every Tuesday and if for any reason you do not have PING and only hear about things from other parents, pop into the office!

LUCY "The Space” Family Support Idea for the Week:

Structure and routines at home

Children are faced with change and the unknown daily, which is a growth opportunity but also stressful. Routines can give children a sense of security and help them feel safe and develop self-discipline. They also help to remove power struggles, and they allow you time to connect with your child.

How can parents help?

When starting a new routine, only change one part of the day at a time. Evenings are a good place to start because they prepare you for an organised morning. Establish what your non-negotiables are (for example the time they each go to bed) and give them some choices, such as whether bedtime stories are together or separate. Make a poster with the schedule on it and hang it up on the fridge and in their bedrooms, to help them self-monitor how they are doing. This will develop independence skills. Routines take time to establish so stick to them every day for at least two months before they can turn into habits.
