The Week Ahead 17th November 2024

Dear Glebe Families,

Thank you again for your generosity with BBC Children In Need last Friday.  It was a fun day with your children and our staff team, and more importantly, we all made a positive difference together!  https://www.glebe.harrow.sch.uk/wholeschoolevents/index.asp

Did you know there are ways for parents/carers to recognise and nominate our staff for their work?

Support staff (Learning Support, Office, Site, Catering, IT, Admin) have a national nomination window open now: https://www.starsinourschools.uk

Teachers and Staff can be recognised through www.teachingawards.com/parents-page-the-unsung-hero-award

FIVE REMINDERS FOR THE WEEK AHEAD:

1. CHANGE IN WEATHER AHEAD!

As you can see from the forecast below, the weather is changing.  Can we ask our families to look now to ensure your child’s winter coats, hats, gloves and scarves are all named?  On frosty mornings, we will always grit a pathway across the playground but may not have time to grit the whole playground by 8.35am.  Always use any gritted pathways please and we would discourage scooters and bikes on those days.

2. LOCKDOWN DRILLS

Over the last week we have talked with children about lockdown – in the event we need to secure the building and keep everyone inside or safely in their room due to a possible threat.  Your children have been remarkably sensible about this and my thanks to our staff for how they have discussed this with your children.  We plan to do a drill by the end of next week.

3. CHRISTMAS JUMPER DONATIONS

By the school office, we will have a large box for families to donate Christmas jumpers which may now be too small for your child.  We will sort and refresh them and then offer them to Glebe families looking for a new Christmas jumper.  This means less lovely clothes go into landfill and we work together as a community.  Please bring your donations in from Monday.  Our Christmas Jumper Day is the same day as our Christmas Fair, WEDNESDAY 11TH DECEMBER!

4. PINGS THIS WEEK

A good idea from a few Glebe parents was “Can we add a reminder of PINGS we need to action from the last week in our Sunday PING?”.  Parents/carers have lots to remember so we are happy to help!

ALL: Children in Need Thank You!

RECEPTION: Book donation for EYFS children, Trip cancellation

YEAR 3: Y3 Butterflies class assembly invite

LUCY "The Space” Family Support Idea for the Week:

How to listen so your child will talk

Parents often ask what they can say to get their child to talk. The secret isn't about what you say: it's about how you listen. The most important skill in talking with anyone is not lecturing, offering solutions, answering, or teaching. What children need from you is your full attention and empathy: that is what deep listening is.

Even children who do not say much want to connect with you, so try to accept it on their terms. Connection does not always look like a deep meaningful conversation: it can be a hug, a high five, a long look in each other’s eyes. Children may also feel more comfortable talking while walking down the street or washing the dishes.  Most importantly, pay full attention: put your phone down and be present. It will be a gift to both of you.

On the horizon...

PTFA Christmas Fair, Christmas Jumper Day, EYFS Christmas Concert, Christmas Party Day...we are thinking CHRISTMAS!
