The Week Ahead 14th July 2024

Dear Glebe Families,

We have made it to the end of the academic year!  A few more early wake-ups before a long and deserved break with hopes of warm, summer sunshine!  England becoming Euro Champions would be a great start to the week!  Fingers crossed for tonight and remember we open normal time tomorrow but with a softer-start, closing registers from 9.10am.

My immense thanks to Miss Sawicka and Miss Hawkins along with all our Sports Leaders for a brilliant Fun and Fitness Week!  The finale was on Friday with the Staff vs Netball match which staff won overall by 2 games to 1!  Then the big dance show - see a snippet on our Instagram account @gloriousglebe  NORMAL UNIFORM all this week!

FIVE REMINDERS FOR THE WEEK AHEAD:

1. Dates in the diary:

MONDAY

Summer Reports go home - we ask parents/carers NOT to open them in the playground and do not compare your child to another parent’s child.  This is about your child’s learning journey this year.  There is a sheet to give your feedback on - please do this by the end of the week.  At 6pm a School Ping will arrive for you to sign up for a meeting with the teacher if you wish.

10.00am EYFS and Y1/2 watch the Y6 Dress Rehearsal (children only)

TUESDAY:

Reception go on their trip to Aldenham Country Park

3.30pm-5pm If you wanted a meeting with your child’s current teacher, please complete the Form which will be sent out on Monday at 6pm

1.30pm Y3-Y5 watch the Y6 Dress Rehearsal (children only)

WEDNESDAY:

Nursery are planning a  "Teddy Bear Transition Tour" which will involve a tour of the school and a visit to their Reception class. We will finish  our tour on the school field for a picnic (weather permitting).  Please help your child to pick their favourite small soft/cuddly toy they would like to bring on the day. Normal Nursery timings.

5.30pm Y6 parents/carers to bring their Y6 children in.  Refreshments for the parents/carers until the Y6 production show starts at 6pm.  NO UNDER 11s.  If you need to bring a baby/toddler, please let us know ASAP at office@glebe.harrow.sch.uk and you can attend a day-time rehearsal.

THURSDAY:

Children find out if they won in the Reading Challenge Award Assembly

FRIDAY:

2pm Y6 Leavers’ Assembly for Y6 children and their parents/carers

3.10pm Normal finish times - last day of school for children!

2. TAKING THINGS HOME: Over the next week, children will bring home their used exercise books, art work etc.  If you can send them in with extra carrier bags, it would be greatly appreciated.  We will be sending home Summer Term test papers for all children who took them (except Y6) on Monday with their end of year reports.

3. BRINGING THINGS IN: REMINDER Please search around and send your child in with any school library books.  We will not be sending home any more Little Wandle phonic books this term.  If you have any children’s books in good condition which your child does not read any more, we would happily accept any donations to add to our class libraries.  Just send them in this week.  Don’t forget over summer our local Kenton Library will be launching their summer reading challenge so pop along soon.

4. NOURISH UPDATES: Following your recent parent/carer Survey and children’s Survey, we fed-back what you said to NOURISH the school caterers.  They swiftly responded and came in to meet the School Council on Thursday to change the menu planned for Autumn 1 .  They are also going to use Glebe to pilot a new NOURISH app before it goes national! Here you can see menus, recipes and interact with NOURISH easily.  More in September when they host a food tasting session for parents/carers.  Plus the “choose with your eyes” day went really well so we plan to launch this for all Y1-Y6 from September so no more need to order online!  Exciting time for food at Glebe!  Look in the Glebe Gazette being sent later today!

5. OFFICE TIMINGS: So you know the school office is open from 8am-4.30pm, Monday to Friday term-time.  You can always email office@glebe.harrow.sch.uk . Please mark URGENT if you need a same-day response.

Week ahead weather:

Monday and Tuesday look warm but rain expected at pick-up times! The rest of the week should be warm and sunny.

On the horizon...

* Remember school restarts on Wednesday 4th September 2024 for Y1-Y6 children.  New Nursery and New Reception children have different start dates.

As always, if you have any concerns or queries, use our communication guide so we can respond as soon as possible to: https://www.glebe.harrow.sch.uk/Parents/Communication/
