The Week Ahead 10th November 2024

Dear Glebe Families,

We have had a great first week back with children back into routines, a brilliantly successful PTFA Halloween Disco, a new exciting range of extracurricular clubs were launched for Autumn 2, and a quick, safe practise of our fire evacuation procedures was completed.  Nearly all families are now on time in the morning before 8.45am which is appreciated.  Finally, congratulations to Ariha in Y2D who came second place in Harrow's Remembrance Poetry competition and attends the Mayor's event today - she will perform her winning poem in assembly tomorrow! Lots to feel positive about at #glorious glebe!

Having practised fire evacuations to get everyone out of the building, we will now focus on how we would manage a lockdown to get everyone back in the building and to ensure we have “locked down” the building because of an outside threat to the safety of our children and staff.  We will hopefully never need it, but we practise it all the same.  We will discuss it with children on Tuesday in assembly.  If you have any questions, email in office@glebe.harrow.sch.uk or chat to a leader on the gate at pick up/drop off.

FIVE REMINDERS FOR THE WEEK AHEAD:

1. TOILETS

Having shared the positives from last week, we do have one issue we need assistance with. A very tiny minority of Y1-Y6 children across the school have been messing around in toilets, deliberately putting tissues to block the sink or the toilet, creating a floor flood on Friday.  We are shocked by this behaviour as we know it is not something you would be allowing in your own homes.  All children have been spoken with but we ask you to reinforce this too.  Deliberate vandalism of school property breaches our behaviour expectations and could lead into a suspension from school which stays on your child’s school records.  Your support is appreciated with this.

2. CAR PARK GATES & MAGNA

Starting Monday, our new car park gate system will be working.  Any families using MAGNA will need to use the pedestrian gate in the middle of the car park fence for entry in and out of the breakfast/after-school club.  Always have the MAGNA number in your phone 07394 949467.  We encourage all families to register for MAGNA in case you ever need a space there: https://magna.childcare-online-booking.co.uk/

3. EXTRAS THIS WEEK – BE ORGANISED!

We start MONDAY with REMEMBRANCE and a reminder that poppies can be purchased from the school office for a donation if you would like to (optional). TUESDAY we focus on National Anti-Bullying Week with our WEAR ODD SOCKS DAY celebrating all of us are unique!  FRIDAY we have our NON-UNIFORM DAY FOR BBC CHILDREN IN NEED!  We will be in the playground with buckets to collect your donations of £1 per child for this worthwhile cause.  In return, children can wear non-uniform linked to spots, superheroes or anything that makes them feel great! We also have some Children In Need Pudsey ears for sale in the school office for £2.50.

4. PINGS THIS WEEK

A good idea from a few Glebe parents was “Can we add a reminder of PINGS we need to action from the last week in our Sunday PING?”.  Parents/carers have lots to remember so we are happy to help!

LUCY "The Space” Family Support Idea for the Week:

Help your child feel heard.

Children are more likely to follow our rules when they feel we are listening to them. It can be hard sometimes to take a moment to listen to your child. However, how do you feel when you aren't listened to? This might be how your child feels.

Acknowledge what your child is asking for, even if your answer is ‘no’.  For example: "I hear you.  You are saying it loud and clear - NO BATH! You really do not want to have a bath! Tonight, you do need to have one, though… Which do you choose- a bath or a shower?" Offering a choice to your child can be really powerful because they feel they have some control, even if it’s small.

On the horizon...

20th November Y6G visit RAF museum and Y3B Class Assembly; 22nd November Y6S RAF Museum
