The Sunday PING 1st May 2026
Dear Glebe Families,
A week of sunny weather really makes a positive difference, doesn't’ it? And we have a weirdly shorter week this week:
MONDAY: School closed – Bank Holiday
TUESDAY & WEDNESDAY: School as normal
THURSDAY: School closed as we are a Polling station and local elections (Y6 still come in 9am-3pm)
FRIDAY: School as normal
Please make sure this is shared with whoever is doing drop off and pick up!
FLASHBACK...A YEAR AGO WE SHARED THIS WITH YOU: “While chatting about VE Day and the idea of being evacuated during the war, we were surprised by how many children don’t know their own address or postcode! It took us right back to when we were children, learning our home phone number by heart – a rite of passage back then!”
A year on, test your child to see if they know their home address, postcode and phone number off by heart!
FIVE REMINDERS FOR THE WEEK AHEAD:
1. WARM WEATHER
Last Friday’s glorious 25c weather was a reminder that we are in SUMMER! Here are your “sun-safe” reminders:
- Every day put a layer of sun lotion on your child as UV rays are high
- Remember a hat!
- School shorts and school summer dresses (blue and white checked) allowed
- A water bottle everyday – you could freeze it overnight so it stays cooler for longer
- IF we have a heatwave with temperatures at 28c or above, we will make it a non-uniform day, notifying you by PING the night before
2. OUR GLEBE PTFA SUMMER FESTIVAL – SATURDAY 11TH JULY 11am-3pm
We are excited to bring a Summer Festival for all our Glebe community and the local area, but we need volunteers and donations to make it a success. If you can help with giving time, food donations or if you work for a company who can donate a raffle prize, we would love to hear from you! Email office@glebeschool.org and we will forward it on!
3. BIRTHDAY GIFTS FOR THE CLASS
A reminder that we have a number of children with nut allergies, or who only have halal products. We did ask families to donate a book for the class to share rather than sweets and chocolates/party bags to reduce risks. If you could support this, it would be appreciated.

LUCY "The Space” Family Support Idea for the Week:
End-of-the-day Meltdowns
Do you ever find the end of the day particularly difficult? Does your child become extra teary or uncooperative? Even if they love school, it is hard work for children to hold it together all day, faced with so many challenges, people, rules and transitions. When they come home to you, they finally feel safe enough to let go of all the emotions they stored up all day. After being apart for so long children will also feel disconnected from you and their meltdown is a way to tell you that they are feeling alone.
How can parents help?
Stop (HALT) and ask yourself: is your child Hungry, Angry, Lonely or Tired? The key is to prepare for the end of the day assuming that your child could be feeling all of the above. First, make sure you refill your own cup before you pick up your child from school: take 5mins to pause and think of one nice thing you can do for yourself once your child is in bed tonight. When you pick him up, take the time to reconnect with lots of hugs and delight, and give him your attention. Have simple healthy snacks ready to go at pick-up or the moment you get home and perhaps put on some soothing music too. Try to keep your child nearby as you prepare dinner- maybe even prepare it together and keep it fun! Simplify your evenings so that you can use this time to connect.
Sometimes we could all do with someone to talk to.
If you would like to meet Lucy Cohen for a confidential and non-judgemental chat about you, your child, or any other worries, they are available on Tuesdays from 9-10am.
You can call/text 07469705850 or email lucy@schoolscounsellingpartnership.co.uk
On the horizon...(all on the School PING Calendar):

HOME/SCHOOL Communication reminders:
- Learning/behaviour queries to class teachers
2. Email office@glebeschool.org if anything needs more support, and they will direct it to the right person
3. Please do not approach each other or the children if there is a concern – speak to Glebe staff first
Remember, everything on our website can be translated into different languages: www.glebe.harrow.sch.uk/
Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
