The Sunday PING 12th April 2026
Dear Glebe Families,
A very warm welcome back to the summer term! We hope you had a wonderful break and are looking forward to warmer, drier months ahead (hopefully)!
A welcome back to Mrs Hogan later this week as she rejoins the EYFS team! Ms Osei continues to undergo treatment and we all wish her at the best in her recovery.
As always, please contact us if you have any queries or concerns, and we really appreciate compliments too! It was lovely to have such great feedback from our Iftar Evening and Easter Bonnet Parade last term, and we really appreciated your appreciation of the event.
And don't forget PARENT EVENINGS ARE THIS WEDNESDAY AND NEXT MONDAY. If you have not yet signed up for your time with the teacher, check the PING app and look under MY MESSAGES (sent 25th March 26).
Finally, a Happy Easter to our Orthodox families celebrating this weekend.
FIVE REMINDERS FOR THE WEEK AHEAD:
1. Y1 and Y3 CLASS MIXES
As last academic year we will be doing class mixes. We do this for a number of reasons:
- children learn to create new friendships with other children as part of getting them secondary school ready where they may be a new child amongst 250 other children; they also avoid being over dependent over just one friend and learn to share friends with other children
- as with all Harrow schools, there is mobility across the school when children leave and new children arrive – we look to ensure a balance of boys and girls, children with english as an additional language and/or special educational needs across each class in a year group.
-some children are great friends but not necessarily great learning role models for each other and separating them will help each child focus more on their learning.
At the end of this academic year, we will be mixing Year 1 as they go into Year 2, and Year 3 classes going into Year 4 classes as there has been mobility, and we want to address the points above for them.
You will appreciate organising children into balanced classes is a challenge. If you had a particular thought or consideration for the current teachers to look at ahead of mixing classes, let your child’s class teacher know at Parent Meetings in the next couple of weeks.
I trust our teachers who know our children really well, to make the right choices to move all children forwards.
2. HIGH EXPECTATIONS FOR ALL
UNIFORM: We want our children to be dressed smartly and proudly in their school uniform each day and their school PE Kit on PE days. By choosing Glebe, you agree to follow the uniform expectation. Please make an extra check today your child has the right uniform for tomorrow.
PARKING: Similarly, we have high expectations of parents around parking. You know it is wrong, dangerous and illegal to park on the yellow zig zags and it is rude to block local resident driveways. Please represent our Glebe community with a high expectation in all you do.
3. NEW EMAIL ADDRESSES
We have changed our email addresses and wanted to let you know of how to make contact - emails end @glebeschool.org:

LUCY "The Space” Family Support Idea for the Week:
Developing self-discipline
Children’s brains are still developing the ability to switch gears from what they want to what you want. Every time you ask them to do something that requires your child to give up what they want in order to do what you want; they have to make a choice. AND every time they do it, they strengthen their brain's ability to make that choice. That's how children develop self-discipline. But this only works if your child chooses willingly. If you drag them kicking and screaming, they are resisting rather than choosing… and won’t building those self-discipline skills. (That's why there's a "self" in "self-discipline. It's chosen from inside.)
How can parents help?
Set limits with empathy so your child WANTS to cooperate and gets plenty of practice. To avoid power struggles, offer two choices. For example: “You can choose, you can either brush your teeth now with your brother, or in 5mins once he is done”. Make sure they are two choices you are OK with.
Sometimes we could all do with someone to talk to.
If you would like to meet Lucy Cohen for a confidential and non-judgemental chat about you, your child, or any other worries, they are available on Tuesdays from 9-10am.
You can call/text 07469705850 or email lucy@schoolscounsellingpartnership.co.uk
